Moore Talks Receivers

Though there may be some external chatter about the lack of a true alpha receiver, veterans Davone Bess and Brian Hartline will likely get the opportunity to shoulder the load.
“When you look at the two guys, you’ve seen brilliance and some flashes of greatness,” Moore said. “Davone Bess has been, through the years, your most consistent player.”
The Dolphins have several players on the roster — and possibly a few that could be added in the draft — that will compete for playing time alongside Bess and Hartline. Moore thinks that the first things guys like Roberto Wallace and Clyde Gates need to do is show a willingness to learn.
“They’ve got to hit the playbook,” Moore said. “They’ve got to show the coaches that, hey, if you put me in the game, you can trust me not to make a mental mistake, not to blow up the play.”
Of the less experienced receivers on the roster, Moore thinks that Marlon Moore could take the leap because he has good speed. But Nat cautions that there’s more subtlety to successfully playing the position.
“Speed only matters if you know how to use it,” Moore said. “Too many guys figure that the faster I run, that’s gonna get me open. No, because everyone can run.”
The past few seasons there has been a bit of a tight end renascence, with guys like Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski submitting dynamic performances on a weekly basis. Moore feels that, while maybe underutilized in the past, Anthony Fasano and Charles Clay could be primed for big years.
“Every time they touch the ball, they’re moving the chains. They’re making things happen,” Moore said. “When we start to look at the players on the field and who can do the most with the football, that’s how you decide who’s getting the calls.”
Because of the departure Brandon Marshall and the insertion of the West Coast offense, the quarterbacks should feel more comfortable spreading the football around. Instead of each guy worrying about himself, Moore thinks that the receivers –and the whole team — needs to focus on what they’re doing collectively.
“It’s got to be a total team concept versus the I, how I’m going to the get them,” Moore said. “No, how do we win on this play? How do we win on the next play?
