Fantasy: Week 15 Q & A
Posted By The Finsiders On December 12, 2012 @ 9:34 pm In Football | 1 Comment
Week 15 is a huge week in fantasy football with the semifinals taking place in most leagues. We turn to our fantasy guru, James Morris, to answer the questions of many fans.
Question- My two TE’s are Antonio Gates and Dennis Pitta. Martellus Bennett is the best TE available followed by Jared Cook. There is no much difference between any of them, but who would you start?
James Morris: Since Cook was placed on the IR, I’d rule him out. Gates hasn’t had a 50-yard game since week 10, and has topped that mark just three times this season. Meaning, he is one of the more overrated TEs in all fantasy football this season. Then there is Pitta, who never regained the value he had in the first three weeks of the season. Maybe the change in Offensive Coordinators helps, but I wouldn’t want to bank my fantasy title hopes on it.
Bennett is on a nice little 2-game hot streak, and I would cut Pitta, add Bennett and start him over Gates.
Question- Who would you start this week, Andrew Luck or Andy Dalton? Thanks for your help this year.
James Morris: I’d play Dalton by a longshot. The Texans are sure to be looking for some revenge after getting absolutely humiliated on Monday Night Football by the Patriots last week, and Luck has been fairly erratic the last four weeks. I’ve been telling people all season long that Dalton is underrated, despite being the #9 ranked QB in NFL.com fantasy football leagues.
Question- I have defense and TE problems to deal with. Would you take a chance and go with the Lions this week over the Broncos? And at TE, do you use Brandon Myers or Owen Daniels?
James Morris: I really like the Broncos this week against a Ravens team switching Offensive Coordinators. Joe Flacco has always been very average for starting QBs, and now the play calling will go to his QB coach (Jim Caldwell). Word is he will use more no-huddle formations, which could either be very good for Flacco because he will have more chances for stats, or real bad because the switch in styles takes time to acclimate to. I would give the Broncos defense the play this week as I think it is the latter of the two.
At TE I go with Daniels. Myers had one good game and we all jumped on the bandwagon, and last week he put up just 7 yards on one catch. Daniels is much more reliable and that is what we need in the playoffs, reliability.
Question- I am starting AJ Green, Miles Austin, and Danario Alexander in the flex. I also have Marques Colston, Anquan Boldin and Lance Moore on my bench. Also, I have Detroit’s Defense against Arizona and Houston’s defense vs. Indianapolis. What do you think?
James Morris: To be honest, I would swap out Alexander and put in Colston. The Bucs are dead last in the NFL with 44.0 PPG allowed to fantasy WRs in PPR formats, whereas the Panthers are 8th in the NFL with just 30.8 PPG. The stats don’t lie, play Colston. On defense I actually like both teams, but would give the Lions the edge because the Texans defense is ranked #22 in NFL.com scoring over the last month. The Cardinals are REALLY bad, and the Lions should get up on them forcing the Cardinals to throw, and thus turn the ball over.
Question- Okay, there are two players on my team that I’ve grown to hate: Brandon Lloyd and Jeremy Kerley. With Kerley, I mean, who is this guy? I would’ve dumped him long ago but ESPN always projects him high and every once in a while he actually delivers. With Lloyd, I was high on him before Matthew Berry was and I keep holding out hope for him to break out. Then this past week against the Texans he goes off on my bench. So, yeah, they got Kerely projected like 20, and Lloyd 9. What’s your take on it?
James Morris: Ok, one thing you should know about ESPN and some of the other big websites for fantasy games is they don’t update their projections every single week. Last week NFL.com had Ryan Broyles projected for 10.00 points, and the guy is on the Injured Reserve! This week they have Larry Fitzgerald projected to catch 4 passes for 52 yards, and he has just 6 catches for 67 yards over the last 4 games! DON’T TRUST THE PROJECTIONS.
Lloyd is just too inconsistent to count on. He just had his best game of the season, which sadly enough it was 7 catches for 89 yards and a TD.
Kerely isn’t going to score… that is a given. His QB is one of the worst starters in the league (only behind the arena league talent the Cardinals run out each week), and the running game does nothing to help take the pressure off the passing game. The best he will do is 5-6 catches for 55-60 YPG.
As for this week, I wouldn’t trust Lloyd against a 49ers team that is surging. Whereas the Titans are VERY generous with the pass (tied for 5th worst in NFL with 14 TDs allowed to WRs). Go with Kerely and get right with Jesus ASAP! But, I would look at guys like Danario Alexander (owned in just 27.9 percent of NFL.com leagues), Brian Hartline (43.5 percent owned) and/or even Davone Bess (6.4 percent). I like the Dolphins WRs this week against the helpless Jaguars defense.
Question- I’m in the semifinals this week and am wondering if you think there’s a good defense that I could pick up. I have the 49’ers but have an extra kicker I could drop to pick up a sleeper D. Do I grab the Lions D since they’re playing the Cards? What are some of the top match ups you foresee for Defenses?
James Morris: I really like the Broncos, Lions, Bengals and Dolphins defenses this week. Baltimore is switching Offensive Coordinators and that could affect the flow of the offense; Detroit plays Arizona and they LOVE to play pitch-n-catch with defenses; Cincinnati gets a Philadelphia team that is overly confident after beating an inconsistent Tampa Bay team; and the Dolphins get a Jaguars team that can’t get out of its own way these days. I like them in that order, and at least two of the defenses should be available in most leagues, if not all four.
